This past weekend Prosum volunteered at L.A. Works Day 2015, Los Angeles’ largest day of service! This year’s day of service was a lovely mix of 300 gallons of paint, 40 yards of mulch, 200 shovels and over a thousand corporate and community volunteers who came together to transform South East L.A!
Team Prosum arrived at the event bright and early to help the event run smoothly by setting up tables, chairs, and signage. Prosum managed the registration tables and volunteer assignments by ensuring all attendees participated in a project. Some of the projects included mural painting along the Los Angeles River, painting park fences, planting and weeding, and building benches for kindergarten reading and garden areas for Park Avenue and Bell Gardens Elementary Schools.
“It was nice to help build benches for the kids at the elementary school and having the principal in attendance showed us how appreciative they are,” said Tracy Gonzalez. “I really loved working with other volunteers, it was refreshing to see how many people can come together to help the community.”
During the event, Prosum took charge of different project roles by becoming shuttle runners and site helpers, controlling and organizing crowds, passing out snacks and fruit, and working the non-profit fair.
“Our team was awesome, we did a great job and made sure volunteer registration was organized,” said Eleni Tio. “L.A. Works is a great organization to partner with, this was our third year volunteering and I enjoyed taking on a leadership role as the volunteer communications chair.”
L.A. Works is a nonprofit volunteer action center that focuses on implementing hands-on community service projects throughout the greater Los Angeles area. They strive to empower L.A. residents to address social issues through volunteerism and community collaborations with over a million community service hours accomplished.
